These are a New Zealand classic and were once essential on a well-stocked afternoon tea table. Crusty and tender they are served split and buttered. You will need a tray of cast iron gem irons to make them properly.

Excellent recipe. Firm family favourite.
My mum use to make these with her grandma all the time as a kid now she makes them regularly with my kids, a fan favorite and you can never go wrong with them
Inherited some gem irons from my Grandmother. Gave this recipe a crack. Very easy and very popular with the kids. This will be a regular now on!
