Put room-temperature eggs into a saucepan of cold water and place over a medium heat. When the water comes to a simmer, turn off the heat and put the lid on the saucepan.
Leave in the pan until cooked the way you like them.
As soon as hard-boiled eggs are cooked, put them under cold running water for a few minutes. This prevents a grey ring forming on the outside of the yolk.
TIPS
Soft-boiled 3-4 minutes
Firm white, soft yolk 4-7 minutes
Hard-boiled 8 minutes
