A short cheese pastry excellent for that old party favourite - cheese straws.
1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and cayenne pepper. 2. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs, then add the grated cheese. 3. Bind to a soft, but not a sticky dough with the milk, form into a rectangular block, wrap and chill for 10 minutes. 4. Roll the pastry out to 5mm thickness on a lightly floured board and use as required for savoury pies, tarts and quiches.
