Carbonara Sauce for Pasta

A great basic ham & mushroom sauce for pasta.

  • 2 Tbsp oil

    2 ham steaks, chopped or grilled bacon

    1 onion, chopped

    200g mushrooms, sliced

    250g sour cream

    1 egg yolk

    pepper

    250g pasta, cooked e.g. spaghetti, fettucine, spirals, or seashells

  • 1. Heat oil in a frying pan or saucepan. Add ham and onion. Cook until onion is clear and ham slightly browned. Stir in mushrooms and cook for a further 2 minutes.

  • 2. Remove from heat. In a bowl beat sour cream and egg yolk together. Add this to ham mixture.

  • 3. Return pan to a low heat and cook, stirring constantly until sauce thickens slightly. Do not allow to boil. Season with pepper to taste.

  • 4. Add hot pasta and stir to combine.

Add to your menu
