Christmas Mincemeat

Have a go at making your own mincemeat. So much better than store-bought and you can add your favourite flavours.

  • 2 apples, unpeeled, quartered and cored

    1¼ cups currants

    1¼ cups sultanas

    1¼ cups raisins

    1 cup mixed peel

    ¼ cup blanched almonds

    1 cup brown sugar

    ¼ tsp salt

    ½ tsp ground nutmeg

    275g butter, softened

    2 Tbsp brandy or whisky

  • 1. Mince or finely chop the apples, currants, sultanas, raisins, peel and almonds.

  • 2. Add the sugar, salt, nutmeg, softened butter and brandy or whisky, and mix well.

  • 3. Spoon the mixture into clean jars and seal well. Keep for at least 2 weeks before using.
